Five Questions And A Playlist: Sleep Eaters
South London based five-piece Sleep Eaters have garnered high praise following the release of their debut single ‘Ghost On Fire’ earlier this year. Alongside this, some stand out shows supporting the likes of Drahla, Crows and L.A Witch, make them one of the capital’s most exciting emerging bands.
Following the release of their latest single ‘Bad Love’ via PNKSLM the band are preparing for a headline slot at Hackney Wick’s Studio 9294. We asked the guys a few key questions ahead of the show and they gave us a playlist of some of their influences and favourite songs for good measure.
Who were your favourite bands / artists as a teenager?
Will - Ryan Adams & The Cardinals, Marilyn Manson, Gallows and John Martyn.
Danny - Nirvana, Joy Division, Mike Kelley and David La Chapelle.
When did you realise music could be a career?
Will - Ask me in 50 years.
Danny - I don't think I've realised that yet.
Do you have a job outside of music?
Will - Yes, I’m a manager in a restaurant in Dalston. We ferment stuff.
Danny - Yes, I help make music videos.
How well is live music supported in your hometown / city?
Will - Pretty well if we’re talking London. There’s definitely a network and even on Mondays there will be people at shows. I’m from Tunbridge Wells, which has the TW Forum which always puts on brilliant shows and organises a festival each summer.
Danny - I'm from London so I'm pretty lucky that I've always been surrounded by live music. Although more needs to be done to save iconic venues. Maybe when one closes down, two new venues should re-open in the area?
If you could make one change to the music industry to help bands / artists in your position, what would it be?
Will - I’d like to see more musicians being put on because of the music itself, rather than how many people can be brought to a show. It’s hard to start if you have talent but no friends!
Danny - More help with funding potential tours & releases.
